Our growing science program is designed to teach students to ask questions about the physical world and to design the experiments they need to answer those questions.
Our growing catalog of Science courses trains students in the art of thinking like a scientist. Students develop their curiosity about the natural world through hands-on experiments and collaborative problem solving with other eager peers.
Note: Students who are new to AoPS Academy can receive course approvals by going through our admissions process.
Instead of memorizing rules and facts, students build their conceptual understanding of the world around them through hypotheses and experiments.
Students engage in discussions and hands-on lab activities with their peers as they design experiments and interpret data together.
Students tackle challenging problems and synthesize known concepts to expand their adaptability and conceptual understanding.
Students pursue the “why” behind concepts they are taught and learn scientific frameworks for investigating their questions.
Students discover new concepts and conduct experiments to test their ideas under the guidance of expert instructors. Students connect and collaborate with their dedicated peer group.
Students are assigned online weekly homework through their student portal. They receive instant feedback and access to detailed solutions for review after completion. Each assignment includes problems with a wide range of difficulty; students should expect to spend 1-1.5 hours on homework per week.
Students will take in-class exams to help measure their learning. Our exams are challenging! Struggling on problems – even those which they never solve – helps students develop strong problem-solving and critical reasoning skills. Along the way, students also learn that difficult problems don't have to be scary.
Students and parents can view detailed performance reports on their course homepage at any time throughout each course.
Our two-week camps are designed to keep students engaged and sharpen their skills for the upcoming school year.
