Writing Camp 3-4: Creative Writing
Summer Language Arts
Schedule in 2026
In this fun, energetic course designed for students entering grade 3 or 4, students build their reading and writing skills by studying the works of picture book masters. Each day in class, students will read and discuss a picture book addressing an advanced Language Arts topic. Then it’s time for them to try their hand at writing with a unique assignment based on the topic of the day. In the final days of the course, students will have the chance to apply what they’ve learned as they write and illustrate a picture book of their very own.
Some topics covered in this course include:
- Narrators
- Story Problems
- Anthropomorphism
- Hero’s Journey
Course Text:
- A Writer's Notebook by Ralph Fletcher
Note: To ensure students have the best experience, it is recommended that they do not read the text before class starts.
Each lesson includes a balance of lively discussion, independent writing time, and games to get the creative juices flowing!
This two-week course meets Monday through Friday for three hours each day.
Space is very limited for our summer programs. Please do not wait until the last minute to enroll. If there are more than two weeks before the course starts, a $200 deposit will be due when enrolling, with the balance due two weeks before the course begins.
